Italy is first in the production of the 30-90 mt range. Innovations in refit and new-build. The market shows stability.
In the decade 2010 – 2020, the world fleet has grown consolidating above all the numbers of the mid-range yachts between 40 and 90 meters and passing from 3,924 to 5,713 yachts. And estimates for the next decade are still rising with a an average from 3 to 5 percentage points with 7,166 yachts total in navigation, and within the same length range.
Despite the impact of Codiv 19, delivery commitments are substantially unchanged compared to 2019 in both new-build and refit. The challenges and the opportunities in both sectors continue to show signs of growth and stability.
These are some of the numbers on the future of the market highlighted during the Superyacht Captains Forum organized by The Superyacht Group for the opening of YARE – Yachting Aftersales and Refit Experience. The first part of the event, totally digital and available on line through a dedicated app, took place on November 26 /27 and will continue this December (from 3 to 10) with the B2C Meet the Captain session, focusing on business meetings between superyacht captains and participating companies.
The analysis and data confirm Italy’s best performances in terms of production compared to global numbers and in the past 3 decades.
In the range between 30 and 45 meters, the percentage of the global fleet is 5.5%; the Italian figure is 8.3%. Between 44 and 60 meters, 5.1% Global Fleet and 7.2% Italian Fleet; between 60 and 90 meters, 6.4% Global fleet and 7.5% Italian fleet.
In 2019, the market of superyacht was stable, waiting for 2020 and some outcomes of such factors as Brexit and the loosening of the German economy: a bit of uncertainty that has been overcome by the events related to the pandemic that has hit the planet.
“For the yachting industry, this must the opportunity to focus on the fact that yachts represent a safe island for our customers” – underlined president of YARE Vincenzo Poerio in his opening speech.
As a matter of fact, shipyards continue to invest in their product lines and the whole sector is embracing a wave of innovation in both new build and refit, just as the owner seems not afraid to push designers and shipyards for new hull shapes, innovative propulsion, respect for the environment and technology efficiency.
In terms of attendance on line, 700 single logins have been registered during the first day to attend the technical workshops with the contributions of 120 among moderators and speakers, an average of 150 people attending each workshop and 80 captains connected.
