Challenge on investments, sustainability and innovation on 2030 for companies in the sector. Market insights on the second day of YARE, organized by NAVIGO
Growing yacht market – both in terms of orders for new builds and refits -, increase in the world fleet and in the size of boats internationally in the 30/70 mt product range, private owners and charter companies that require more innovation on projects and sustainability of the purchased asset. If yachting is going through a very positive moment in its history and the yacht itself, free and safe, is favoring shipyards and all related industries, there is a need to manage this positive phase by focusing on innovation, sustainability and training in anticipation. 2030, the year of the official launch of the Sustainable Development program.
This is the input that Martin H. Redmayne, chairman of the English media group The Superyacht Group, highlighted to the public of captains and companies at The Superyacht Forum Live (Captains Edition) held this morning within YARE (Yachting Aftersales and Refit Experience), the international yachting industry event in Viareggio organized by NAVIGO, service center for the innovation and development of yachting.
According to the estimates of The Superyacht Group, international media partner, the sector of motor yachts from 30-50 meters represents 59% of the world order backlog. The anticipation on the trends of the next few years – again according to the forecast scenarios of the English magazine, specialized in marketing intelligence – concerns a hypothesis of growth of the superyacht fleet (based on the performance of 20 leading Italian and foreign shipyards) that passes from 5,718 yachts on the market in 2020, to 6,749 in 2025 and 7,700 in 2030. “In the autumn shows in Italy and abroad, the important numbers of the sector were highlighted – underlined Vincenzo Poerio, President of YARE at the opening of the exhibition – estimating over 20% at the end of this year on the balance sheets and an increase in exports for our entire area which also pulls on other sectors. The data released by Confindustria Nautica speak of a growth in the global turnover of the Italian nautical industry with a value of + 23.8% for the year 2021, with a range of variation of ± 5% which determines a value between 5.5 and 6 billion euros overall. Therefore, largely consistent results for the entire nautical sector that must push us to maintain these excellent results in terms of planning and looking to the future“.
The keys to allow refit and aftersales shipyards and companies to act on a global market where the supply chain (construction site, supply, refit and service companies, captains, customers and charters) is increasingly international and less than a single district, will be to invest in innovation, training of the new generations, sustainability by anticipating and relaunching the issues of the near future. Despite the restrictions due to the fight against Covid-19, YARE is getting an interesting response with over 250 participants in the event in attendance: 70 Superyacht captains and 60 international companies and a unique live international B2B business event.
“For Navigo, – underlines Pietro Angelini, general manager of the company – it was a challenge to propose the only event in presence with meetings for the sector. We have created, for the captains and the participating companies, the possibility of meet each other in presence regarding all the technical and management aspects of the yachts with the aim of improving the relationship between those who work in services and after-sales, to do business in dedicated B2C sessions and to network in some beautiful and suggestive locations of Viareggio and Versilia, socializing and building relationships”.
Tomorrow, Friday 22 October, the captains will still be engaged in the B2C Meet the Captain business meetings with appointments set through the matching supported by the YARE App with service companies in the refit and aftersales sector mainly from European countries of the Mediterranean and Northern Europe and the United Kingdom. At 10 am, the workshop on the MED NEW JOB project on new professional figures in pleasure boating organized by NAVIGO is scheduled. The focus involves the project partners, production and refit yards, supply companies, service companies and marinas who will have the opportunity to participate in a tour of the nautical district of Viareggio and a visit to some shipyards. At the end of the day, the RINA CAPTAINS AWARDS, a recognition dedicated to captains.
