A special career award goes to Captain Maurizio Capitani, Vice President and Co-Founder of Italian Yacht Masters, one of the most important associations in the world that brings together superyacht captains. For over 30 years, Capitani has been in command of private and commercial superyachts and has sailed all over the world.
The other winner was selected from the captains who attended the training courses of the RINA TRAINING DAY. To win the RINA CAPTAINS AWARDS, Bernard Vivegnis, Belgian captain of great experience in commercial ships first, and for over 10 years at the helm of large yachts. Among the refit projects worth mentioning, the refit of luxury charter vessels including the M/Y Legend and the legendary steam yacht Delphine.
YARE featured the third edition of the RINA CAPTAINS’ AWARDS during the SEATEC/YARE evening held and sponsored by The Italian Sea Group at his premises in Marina di Carrara.
The award goes to the know-how and competences of the captains, leading figures in the superyacht industry and top-players invited by NAVIGO, network for innovation and development of yachting.
RINA plays an important role in the nautical sector supporting the ship-owners, and shipbuilders during all phases (design, construction, navigation). Stability, life-saving devices, fire protection, ventilation and escape systems are critical areas in the design of a mega yacht and RINA offers an expertise recognized worldwide on passenger ships and equivalent standards applicable to luxury yachts.
RINA’s assistance in the adoption of alternative design solutions required by international conventions allows to design yachts in full compliance with the most strict regulatory requirements, while retaining the distinctive characteristics of a pleasure boat. Not only safety regulations, but also a significant number of additional class notations and high-value services for cruise ships such as Green Plus and Comfort Class are now applicable to mega yachts.
Nine candidates presented their projects on stage during the Passerelle Pitch, the contest dedicated to the best innovative idea of the attending companies – The jury of the public and the captains decided to award, again, Marinepool and its CEO Robert Stark for the innovative product Aquadian Pro a comfortable t-shirt which becomes a life jacket and guarantees maximum safety to all lovers of water sports such as rowing, kite surfing, SUP or snorkelling and for those who do not feel safe with bulky equipment more difficult to use and wear.
